Title: 1958 Messerschmitt

I just purchased a Messerschmitt, purchased at an estate sale. I can't seem to understand how to shift the car before stalling on me.

It shifts sequentially like a motorcycle. If you are not in first gear starting out it will stall.
Pull back several times to make sure it is in first gear.  Then once you are moving, upshift by pushing forward on the gear lever.
