Nsu Prinz fuel problem

I've just started working on my 1961 Nsu prinz, and have hit a small snag. If you pour fuel into the carb, the engine runs very well (I think/hope). But it doesn't seem to get any fuel from the gas tank. We cleaned it out but i'm not sure where the problem could be. Also, there is an oil leak near the head that we are fixing. Any tips?
